Mac menu-bar app
Whir
See the estimated API-equivalent value of your Claude Code and Codex usage, on your Mac.

Your AI usage at a glance
Whir uses local Claude Code and Codex usage logs to estimate their API-equivalent value and displays it in your Mac menu bar.
It helps you see which tools, models, and projects account for your usage, without opening a separate dashboard.
What you can see
- Today’s usage and hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly history
- Breakdowns by provider, model, and project
- A comparison of subscription cost and estimated usage value
- CPU, memory, and disk activity, plus CSV export
The amount is estimated usage value at API prices, not your actual bill or remaining subscription allowance.
Start in three steps
- Install Whir from the Mac App Store and open it from your menu bar.
- When prompted, grant read access to the local Claude Code or Codex folder you use. One provider is enough to start.
- Open the panel for today's estimate, or choose History to explore earlier usage.
If your usage is missing, see the folder access and troubleshooting guide.
Data handling
Calculation happens on your Mac. An optional download from GitHub refreshes model prices; it does not upload your usage logs. You can turn off automatic price updates in Settings. Like other web downloads, the request exposes your IP address to the hosting service.
Read the current Whir privacy policy for details.
Availability
Whir is available as a free download on the Mac App Store. Requires macOS 14 or later.
